Couples Counselling

Geelong Couples Counselling

We offer face to face and Telehealth couples, relationship, and marriage counselling in a supportive and private setting.

Our dedicated couples counsellor, Maja Graljuk, works with partners at every stage of their relationship. Maja draws on the Gottman Method and other evidence based approaches to help couples strengthen communication, improve connection, and navigate difficult moments with clarity.

If you feel distance, tension, or uncertainty building between you, couples counselling can help you understand patterns, support each other more effectively, and move forward with greater confidence. Sessions are available in person or online.

Relationship difficulties can stem from many sources, and each couple experiences them differently. You may relate to challenges such as:

  • Frequent arguments or ongoing conflict
  • Infidelity, broken trust, or uncertainty about commitment
  • Communication that feels strained, reactive, or shut down
  • Difficulty opening up or being emotionally vulnerable
  • Barriers around intimacy or changes in your sex life
  • Financial stress or disagreements about money
  • Feeling distant, misunderstood, or disconnected
  • Tension involving relatives, in-laws, or friendships
  • Parenting pressures and family dynamic stressors
  • Differences in values, priorities, or decision making
  • Struggles during major life transitions or stress
  • Emotional or physical abuse

The Counselling Experience

The Counselling Experience

The Counselling Experience

Whether you are in a new relationship, a long term partnership, or seeking premarital support, couples counselling provides a space for both partners to:

  • Share difficult thoughts and emotions safely
  • Build practical communication skills and tools
  • Listen with patience, curiosity, and intention
  • Understand each other more clearly and respectfully
  • Identify patterns that lead to conflict and tension
  • Learn strategies to strengthen the relationship
  • Navigate challenging seasons and transitions
  • Replace unhelpful habits with healthier dynamics
  • Rebuild connection and restore your sense of closeness

The moment connection returns for a couple marks the start of an exciting new beginning.

The Gottman Method

The Gottman Method is an approach to couples therapy that includes a thorough assessment of the couple’s relationship and integrates research-based interventions based on the Sound Relationship House Theory. The goals of Gottman Method Couples Therapy are to disarm conflicting verbal communication, increase intimacy, respect, and affection, remove barriers that create a feeling of stagnancy, and create a heightened sense of empathy and understanding within the context of the relationship.

Session Structure and Pricing

Session Structure

Session Structure

Session Structure

Couples counselling follows a structured and supportive process that helps both partners feel understood and guided from the outset. The process generally includes:

  • An initial session (60 min), where the couple meets with Maja to outline concerns, clarify priorities, and establish shared therapeutic goals.
  • Individual sessions (50 min), offering each partner dedicated time to discuss their perspective and history in a confidential setting. It is very common for one partner to benefit from brief individual support before re-engaging in couples sessions.
  • The optional Gottman Relationship Assessment, a comprehensive tool that assists in identifying relationship strengths, patterns, and areas requiring targeted focus.
  • Ongoing follow up couples and individual sessions designed to build effective communication, strengthen connection, and support meaningful change, with planned phasing out and medium to longer term evaluation sessions to maintain long term progress.

Session Pricing

Session Structure

Investing in couples counselling can feel significant, yet many couples find that the time and energy saved, along with the reduction in emotional distress, anxiety, and recurring conflict often outweigh the financial cost.

  • Couples sessions: $290 per 60 min
  • Individual sessions: $150 standard or $175 after hours per 50 min
  • Gottman Relationship Assessment: USD$39 paid directly to the Gottman Institute. This assessment is optional and not mandatory for counselling.
